Dead of Winter - Promotional Work

April 12, 2018

I recently volunteered to do some promotional work for this year's Dead of Winter Festival which will showcase some of Brisbane best punk and alternative bands with a macabre theme in celebration of the winter solstice. I was very thrilled to get this opportunity, so I thought I would share this work on my blog for all to enjoy.

I was given 4 bands and the task of writing a 50-70 word bio for each band, along with sourcing 2 music videos and an article on each band and writing a blurb to encourage people to check out the band and ultimately come to the show. So check out my work below.

NANCY VANDAL

50 - 70-word synopsis about the band:

Nancy Vandal have gloriously mocked rock n roll whilst still rocking harder than your friend's band for over 20 years. They gained popularity in the 90's through playing at festivals and opening for acts such as NOFX and Mellincolin. Ska-Punk played with tenacity and a tongue planted firmly in the cheek of rock n' roll.

You don't want to miss them at this year's Dead of Winter Festival.

FLANGIPANIS

50 - 70-word synopsis about the band:

The Flangipanis are a band serious about not taking themselves seriously. Playing catchy pop-punk songs with an infectious intensity and an adolescent sense of humour. They Consistently smash the 4ZZZ hottest 100, year after year and always bring the party, with songs that encourage people to sing along and leave audiences grinning from ear to ear.

Well-known within the Brisbane underground and on the verge of becoming a household name throughout Australia.

A band who refuse to be pigeonholed, Blowhard have stunned audiences for over 20 years; playing a funky style of Ska-Punk

that will leave you saying "What are they gonna do next?" or "I can't believe they just did that?" Sublime, but not for the faint of heart.

Dirty Liars

50 - 70-word synopsis about the band:

Retro-influenced garage rock with a modern edge. The Dirty Liars mean serious business. They're simply bursting with energy, lead by Mandy Moo who is not only a powerful front-woman but also has the voice to back it up.

This is a band who take the aesthetics of 50's rockabilly, mix it with the energy of punk and present it in a way that is fresh and exciting.

They don't play shows every other week, so make sure you get tickets to see them at Dead of Winter Festival this year.

The organiser was very happy with my work and has asked me to do 3 more bands, which will be coming soon. This was a really good experience for me as a writer to take on something that needs to be concise and attractive.  I'm looking forward to doing more of this sort of writing and attending the show itself in July. If you're interested in coming along to see some of the best live music Brisbane has to offer, then grab a ticket at Dead of Winter Festival Tickets, or for more info, check out the event on Facebook.
